District Attendance Policy
You have 5 school days to clear your student's absence.
To clear an absence:
You may call the school directly, send an email via Parent Square, or provide a note from the parent/guardian/appointment provider.
Send in documentation of appointments (mental health, physical health, therapies, dentist, etc) for medically cleared notation
Students leaving school for health reasons outside of a scheduled medical appointment need to be seen in the health office to obtain a health absence release. The health office cannot clear absences if they have not been seen and will be directed to attendance for checkout.
The district realizes medical/therapeutic appointments are outside of the parent/guardian's control, however, if possible, please try to schedule the appointments outside of school hours.
If your student has accumulated 14 full days of health-related absences (when parent calls in to excuse without other documentation); a note from a medical provider* will be needed to excuse any further health absences; unless the school nurse has medical documentation of an ongoing chronic health problem that may incur frequent health absences.
If your student is hospitalized, the school site may request a medical provider’s clearance note before returning to campus.
Please keep in mind, that parent requests and family vacations are not deemed as excused absences and may result in your student not being able to make up missing class work.
*HBUHSD defines a medical provider as MD, DO, NP, or PA
