FVHS' s phone policy is adopted pursuant to California Education Code Section 48901.7. FVHS restricts the use of electronic devices to promote student learning, well-being, and a positive campus culture.

CELL PHONE RULES:
Cell phones must be stored in a storage location designated by the classroom teacher during all class periods, including in locker rooms and when students are outside during class time for any reason, such as using the restroom. Cell phones may only be used during the following times:

Before School Passing Periods Break Lunch After School

Parents/guardians who need to communicate with students during the school day should contact the school office rather than calling or texting a student’ s personal cell phone.

OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES RULES:
Personal electronic and wearable devices, including cameras, smartwatches, smart glasses, wired or wireless earbuds/headphones, and similar devices, must be powered off and stored in backpacks or bags during instructional time. Students may not use any device with photo, video, or audio recording capabilities to record another person on campus without that person ’ s prior consent, in accordance with California Penal Code 632. During instructional time, students are expected to use only school-issued devices, such as Chromebooks, unless otherwise authorized by school staff.

ACCOMODATIONS AND EXCEPTIONS:
A student will not be prohibited from possessing or using a personal electronic device under the following circumstances: In the case of a school emergency. When a teacher or school administrator grants permission for the student to possess or use the device, subject to reasonable limitations imposed by that teacher or administrator. When the school nurse determines, based on information from a licensed physician, that possession or use of the device is necessary for the student’ s health or well-being. When the possession or use of the device is required as part of the student’ s Individualized Education Program or 504 Plan.

CONSEQUENCES:
1st Offense: Device confiscated. Supervision issues a warning and returns device to student at the end of the school day. 2nd Offense: Device confiscated. Supervision issues a detention and returns device to student at the end of the school day. 3rd Offense: Device confiscated. Supervision issues Saturday school and returns device to parent at the end of the school day. Further offenses will result in additional consequences and/or a behavior contract. Use of an undisclosed device for academic dishonesty is a violation of the FVHS Honor Code in addition to the Electronic Device Policy.

Devices that are lost, stolen, or damaged, including devices confiscated by school staff, will not be reimbursed or replaced under any circumstances.
