Cyber Bullies
Cyber Bullies are out there. When receiving email with questionable content WiredSafety.org (Parry Afab executive director) suggest considering the following:
- “Take Five” Take a break from your computer. Do something you enjoy. This will allow you time to calm down.
- “Think before you click.” Consider what you type in your email before you send. For example, if you are kidding with the person you wrote to, will they understand what you meant? Can your message be taken in a different way than you meant it? Try to consider what the recipient will think of your message, so misinterpretations don't lead to hostile replies or rumors (he said, she said).
- “Stop-Block-Tell.” WiredSafety.org also suggests if you are being bullied online, stop chatting and emailing, place a block on that sender and tell someone (parent, teacher, supervision, and in some situations police).
Remember if you join in a cyber bullying conversation, you are supporting harassment. Aftab, executive director of WiredSafety.org suggests stay in control, “report it don't support it.”
Peer Conflict
Are you experiencing trouble with rumors, disagreements, or he said she said arguments getting you down?
Don't be a part of the rumor game, excuse yourself from the conversation (or emails) when topics turn to the rumor drama
See or drop a note to one of your school psychologists
Ask a teacher or mutual friend to mediate and help resolve the conflict
